1949 Swing coat. Bust 96 cm (37.8")
This swing coat sewing pattern dates back to autumn 1949. It has a high collar to keep your neck warm in chilly winds. The front edges of the coat meet at the centre but do not overlap. However, it could easily be adapted to create a buttoned front. The original pattern included a piece for a decorative pocket flap, but I have added an extra piece for a large patch pocket (I like pockets that are both decorative and functional!). The sleeves have wide cuffs and thick topstitching accentuates the coat's main seams. For the best effect, wear it with a slim skirt.
